Simatai No .19 Villa ตั้งอยู่ห่างจากกำแพงเมืองจีน - ด่านซือหม่าไถ 3.5 กม. High quality room with excellent English comms. We have just enjoyed 2 nights here during May 2022. Pros are: 1) Excellent communication with Ellie by wechat before and during the trip. She can arrange transport for you to Panlongshan section of the Wall for 100rmb round trip. Any questions you have she will promptly reply. 2) Watertown tickets (2) were included in the room price and the car to go there and pick you up later. Very convenient and saves you money! 3) Delicious breakfast especially French toast, fresh coffee. Fresh baked rolls..We ate breakfast in the adjoining breakfast room which is nicely furnished. 4) Ellie kindly upgraded my room.Comfortable room (four poster bed) with ensuite bath (powerful water tap in bath. Also large separate shower head).. Good quality toiletries. Bathrobes. Aircon /heater in room. Living room - adequate size but be aware that it's a shared living room amongst 3 rooms in the Villa. Luckily we were the only people staying there that weekend so had it to ourselves. 5) Excellent, helpful staff working there - Linan speaks English. 6) Relaxing seating area on the deck outside. A barbecue too but we didn't use it. 7) i put in a special request for a cake to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The lady there, I forgot her name, made a delicious cheesecake. Thank you. Cons No cons. Special notes. We visited during the covid testing period in Beijing and also when dine-in restaurants were prohibited. Please do not let that deter you from visiting because you can easily order takeaway food (staff will help you order it) and eat it in your Villa. Also you can do your 48 hour covid (NAT) test before you leave central Beijing and stay there 1 night and still get back to Beijing central. Hospitality venues like this Villa need tourists to visit so we should try and support them. We got the minibus from Watertown (departs 1200, 1700) to Dongzhimen Beijing cost 48 rmb per person NOTE you pay on the bus.

Can't recommend this place enough! The location is great - you can get to the great wall with a short walk. The food was really tasty and the rooms were clean and felt new. Angela arranged for us to be picked up and dropped off further along the wall. Everything was reasonably priced.

I came during late Autumn which apparently is the low season and I have the entire place to myself, besides the lady staff and the three lovely cats. The cheapest and most convenient way to get to the property is to take Beijing 980 快 bus from Donzhimen transportation hub to Miyun 密云 bus terminal (last stop). Journey time about one and half hour. You can use your Beijing Transport store value card to tap in and out of the bus. Fare is around RMB10. Walk to the other side of the road and wait for Mi 密25 mini bus at the bus stop for the bus to Gubeikou. Journey time another one and half hour and fare less than RMB 10. Get down just outside the twin road tunnels to Gubeikou town. Walk along SiCao 司曹 road in the direction of Gubeishuizhen for about 5 minutes and you will see a wooden sign and a small path leading downhill to the entrance. I was lucky to have a Chinese lady to guide me who got down at the same stop. The town is very quiet at night and during the day and so you might want to consider ordering the vegetarian dinner offered by the property. RMB65 per person and please order in advance. I brought along my own stuff for breakfast which the staff didn't mind I consumed at the living)dinning room area. I was allowed to use the kettle to make instant coffee. The entrance to the wild Great Wall is through the reconstructed city gate at the other end of the village, about 5 minutes walk away. There is a charge on entering the trail but because it is the low season, there is no one on duty. The shorter trail leads to three watch towers. One has been reconstructed to house communication transmitters. The other longer trail which is the Simatai (可馬台) section is more rugged and the watch towers are further away. Here the Great Wall is left as it is. On some pathway you are walking on a narrow path on the wall itself or on the ridge line and there are no barriers.
